Why Join A Camera Club?
Why should I join a camera club?
If you are curious about photography, joining a camera club can be a great way to find out more about it. Here are some reasons why you might want to join Afan Nedd Camera Club.
-
Meet Like-Minded People
-
Our members vary from novice to very experienced photographers. Being around other photographers can inspire you to learn and help you stay motivated.
-
You’ll have opportunities to discuss photography techniques, equipment and creative ideas with people who share your passion.
2. Learn and Improve Your Photography
-
We meet indoors (in Port Talbot) every Wednesday between September and May and our members come from all over South Wales.
-
At many of our meetings guest speakers, who may be either visitors to the Club or our own members, will share their images, experiences and expertise
-
You will be introduced to different photography genres, styles and trends
-
We also have workshops and tutorials to help you master techniques like composition, lighting, and post-processing.
3. Go on Photowalks and Trips
-
The best way to develop your photography is to take more photographs. On Fridays throughout the year Afan Nedd has outings to a range of interesting locations enabling you to broaden your photographic experience - in addition to gaining the health benefits of gentle exercise and being outside in the fresh air.
-
We also go out on Tuesday evenings in June, July and August – and see some great sunsets.
-
Travelling with experienced photographers can help you discover new perspectives.
-
A great deal can also be learnt after the trip by comparing your images to those taken by other Club members in similar circumstances
4. Participate in Competitions and Exhibitions
-
Afan Nedd organises internal photography competitions that you can enter, which can push you to refine your skills.
-
You’ll get informed and constructive feedback on your work, which is invaluable for growth
-
You might get the chance to represent the Club in external competitions, showcase your work in exhibitions and gain recognition.
-
If you do not wish to compete you can learn a great deal from observing an experienced photographer giving a critique of your colleagues’ images
5. Stay Motivated and Inspired
-
Regular meetings, year-round regular outings and themed challenges keep you actively engaged with your photography.
-
Seeing others’ work and progress can inspire you to keep improving.
The bottom line is we do this because we enjoy it, we enjoy each other’s company and we have fun.
